Learn how to create a beautiful pillow basket by weaving paper strips. Also a member of Basketmakers of Victoria, Anne is combining her basket making skills with her love of paper to teach you how to create these beautiful vessels. There will be some homework prior to the workshop – the best results will be achieved by arriving with pre decorated paper (instructions will be supplied).
Beginners welcome but some experience of following a weaving path will be an advantage.
Materials fee $25 per person to be paid to the tutor on the day. This will cover the cost of special copper micro clips which will enable you to hold your paper strips in place as your work. These will be yours to take home and use to continue your paper weaving journey.
On Day 1, you will start by making a small sample basket to learn the technique. You will then cut your pre-decorated paper into suitable strips and begin to make your main basket.
On Day 2 you will continue to work on your main basket and then learn the process of finishing.
Tutor: Anne Thoday is a mixed media artist who is interested in combining basketry techniques, papermaking, painting, stitching and collage into woven forms. She learned this pillow basket technique from the internationally acclaimed basket maker and artist, Jacki Abrams who has kindly agreed for Anne to teach this workshop.
