In this workshop Pamela will work with you to create a collage which is paper and cardboard based. Once the collage is complete participants will use this base/substrate for the addition of found objects and other mixed media. It could be flat or three dimensional.
You are encouraged to bring your own bits and pieces in order to personalise your collage. You know, that stuff you’ve been hoarding in the “junk” drawer but didn’t want to throw it out. Bring it along and Pamela will help you assemble it into a new form. As well as all your own beautiful papers, other materials could include things like buttons, ceramic shards, small metal pieces, cardboard ephemera, travel tickets, small souvenirs, sewing threads etc.
This workshop promises to be creative, playful and great upcycling.
Artist Pamela Irving works across media, including collage, painting and sculpture. Her works adorn many public and private spaces in Melbourne and internationally. For example; Larry LaTrobe, the dog sized bronze in front of the Melbourne Town Hall and her mosaic reverie at Luna Park Melbourne. Her works are unashamedly playful, joyous and often irreverent. Where possible she utilises discarded objects, ceramics and junk to create new forms. She has been creating works for exhibition and public spaces full time since 1982. As well as her work in Australia, she teaches annually at the Chicago Mosaic School and exhibits at the Gallery of Contemporary Mosaic in Chicago. Her studio is based in the quirky Patterson Village, a bayside suburb of Melbourne.
