Anzara has agreed to an artist talk when she returns to tell us all about her experiences in Japan. Posted @withregram • @anzaraclarkartist Washing Washi. Yes that is correct. Washi that has been treated in special ways can be washed and hung up to dry without damage to the washi. It feels a bit like chamois when wet. I was privileged to see this today along with beautiful kamiko artefacts and exquisite Shifu by Senoo san. All at Kami No Sato. WORKSHOP - Colour and CompositionSydney Artist, Claire Brach, will lead us into the wonderful world of colour where we will discover what we like, what we don’t like and how colours react together. We will explore how colours affect perceptions of art and how to pick what works and what doesn’t in our own practice.We will look at composition in art and how to create works that fulfill a range of outcomes. Perhaps your interest lies in creating designs with repeating patterns, or pieces with specific focal points, or dynamic abstraction. Sharing some beautiful work by Gail. Posted @withregram • @gail_stiffe_books_paper This week's paper. Only details from "2182", the piece that I've submitted to the blarney books @blarneybooksandart Biblio art prize. The full piece is long and narrow. Also used up some of the coloured pulps by adding glitter that might end up in my Christmas cards. Made some paper beads with the yabbers group inspired by a meeting with Claudia Lee @libertypapermaking the previous month.My work "2181" is inspired by one scene from "The Hummingbird Effect," by Kate Mildenhall @kmildenhall where young girls explore a city submerged due to rising sea levels. As a paper artist with many years of experience, I often return to painting with dyed paper pulp. Paper, being a watery substance in its creation, suits this watery scene. I craft intricate landscapes using dyed paper pulp to capture the fluidity of nature and the fragility of our environment. My art aims to evoke wonder, reflection, and hope, encouraging viewers to connect with the themes of transformation and adaptation. Posted @withregram • @dodgy.paper WASTE OF SPACE : EXHIBITION A showcase of art and materials made from waste // Over the past month, we extended invitations to more than 30 talented artists for a special project at Alleyoop Waste of Space, Space of Waste. Our aim was to create a personalised batch of recycled Dodgy Paper and a unique Lousy Ink colour. Each artist was requested to bring paper waste with them to transform into a fresh batch of recycled paper right in our Dodgy Office. Guided by The Pulp Professor, they delved into the paper-making process, actively crafting the sheets that would later become the centrepiece of our exhibition. Following their paper-making adventure, our artists ventured into the Lousy Lab, where they collaborated with Oli, our Lousy Technician, to concoct a one-of-a-kind ink colour using recycled printer cartridge materials. With freshly crafted paper and a unique ink hue in hand, the artists were tasked with creating original artworks on their sheets, utilising the colours they had formulated. These artworks made from waste will be showcased alongside their custom Lousy Ink Color and Dodgy Paper Batch, all of which will be available for purchase during our upcoming event.Join us on Friday the 6th of October from 6pm - 9pm for the exhibition opening! Kamiko: Five Paper Coats is a sequence of five jackets assembled from sheets of wrinkled handmade Japanese washi paper sourced from workshops in Kurotani, Mino and the Noto peninsula that show very different material possibilities of paper. These five garments, designed and created by DNJ Paper in Melbourne, are made of five unique papers; a paper that includes clay and diatomaceous earth, cedar bark paper, eucalyptus-dyed paper, traditional paper cloth treated with konnyaku jelly, and lace paper.
