Artist's Journaling
Tutor: Liz Powell

First make your own journal to suit your personal needs with compartments, pockets and other storage strategies for collections and drawing tools. This will be a sturdy soft cover constructed something like a mechanics tool kit using a combination of folding and stitching through the spine.

We will then embark on a series of drawing, painting and creative problem solving exercises designed to awaken and nurture your inner artist, experimenting with a wide range of materials and approaches to find what may set you on your own path of discovery.

We will be using the immediate surrounds and environment as a ‘test case’ for the artist’s journal Participants may have
a theme or interest they might like to work on as the basis for a series of drawing painting and collage exercises and bring some reference material, this will be incorporated if that is the case but is not essential.

Opening exercises include brainstorming, creative problem solving using cross referencing and word association and using “Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain” drawing exercises such as blind contour, modified contour and continuous line to free up style and expression

We will investigate ways of developing ideas, images and themes for artworks through research, visual investigation, drawing approaches and techniques, using different viewpoints, frames and selecting sections, ways that text may be included and how to keep track of it all in a creative journal.

Tea and coffee provided, BYO lunch
Fee: $150 members, non-members $170

CLOSING DATE: 1 September

If paying online, please enter the word 'journaling' and your surname to the recipient's information section.

Calligraphy for Non-Calligraphers
Tutor: Margaret Schmidt

'Proper Calligraphy' takes years to learn and become skilled at, and requires specialised equipment such as dip pens and a variety of nibs, inks and paints.

BUT, this is a workshop for non-calligraphers (luckily)! So, there will be no special equipment – just normal stuff everyone has at home – and it will take only ONE DAY to learn how to write in a variety of fun and attractive ways.

By the end of the day you’ll be able, not only to write nicely
in a card, but create a card yourself. … and there’s a surprise project along the way, involving the making of a very impressive little book!!!

Venue: Tea and coffee provided, BYO lunch
Fee: $75 members, non-members $85

If paying online, please enter the word 'calligraphy'
and your surname to the recipient's information section. Remember to send your application form

Layering the Landscape – what to put inside the book!
Tutor: Helen Sanderson

Exploring ways to document PLACE – the book is an excellent vehicle to contain a raft of explorations about some significant place or landscape.

Our theme will be Melbourne. You can work with rural landscape or city scapes or domestic “scapes”….personal or impersonal. I am encouraging you to observe your own landscape and include a range of aspects in your explorations.

As this will be a two day workshop, participants are asked to bring along the materials to use. In longer workshops we take a day to gather this material, but as time is of the essence here, you are asked to bring it on this occasion. We hope to tell a story through our pages, using a range of media. It will be a bit like a sampler, as you will try many things, and we hope you will find something within this process that suits the way you work. Bring things that can be used, not family treasures that are precious - they could be photocopied or photographed.

Tea and coffee provided, BYO lunch
Fee: $150 members, non-members $170

CLOSING DATE: 2 November

If paying online, please enter the word 'landscape'
and your surname to the recipient's information section. Remember to send your application form
